“Released Form is a single-paneled installation made from compressed hand-dyed wool fiber. Unfolding like a concertina, it pushes the boundaries between form and void and illustrates Sagarika Sundaram’s unique approach to transforming traditional textile-making into sculptural forms that interrogate the relationship between surface and structure. The work reflects the artist’s diverse influences, from architecture to nature, challenging the conventional boundaries of textile materiality and sculptural flexibility. Thus, it creates an immersive experience that reshapes the viewer’s perception of space. ‘There is no one way forward,’ Sundaram explains of the viewer’s journey through the work, ‘but rather a series of pathways that one can elect, mix, and match. With each work, I develop new pathways.’”
